Issue summary:
Some editors in the same company [using same OS (Vista) and connected to
corporate network are unable to open same files as me.

We use .asp, .aspx and .cntxml (company custom built page) file extensions.
Looking at my associated file extensions I cannot find .cntxml even listed -
yet, I can open all the afore mentioned extension.

I do not recall ever having had to do anything special to view these pages
when I first started (3 years ago). And, when I had to re-load FP w/in the
last year I did not have any issues. I simply navigate to the folder, rt.
click on the file, choose Open With | FrontPage 2003.

I have had a few new editors who have had to downloaded FrontPage2003 that are
unable to open files in FrontPage.

First error reported was they received an error "There was an error when
trying to fun Windows Shell Common DLL. The command:
C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll fialed.

I asked usre to remove the program and download again.

Next time they simply received a generic 'unable to open
\\pathnamehere\nameoffile.asp ...

Is the issue with FP or FP configuration (locally) ...

I am stumped as to why some have issues and others do not.

Have the other people added the extensions to the list of editors
in the configure editors tab

Tools > Options > configure editors.

Tools > Options > configure editors. is 100% right in FrontPage editor

Then others do this
http://www.hot-text.ath.cx/pub/video/cam_studio20/file-types.swf.html out
side of the editor!

And you have to start over in the FrontPage editor to get it right << Hmm

Should I get Expression Frontpage? IIS I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium. My FP 2002 (SP3) doesn't work well, for example, the preview function a new version which I understand goes by the name FP 2002? Which version of expression would be best for me - I don't intend becoming a web designer by profession, I simply want to put up an updated version of the web for my son's store and be able to periodically update it. I see there are versions - Studio 2, Web 2, Blend 2, etc. Alan Zengel FrontPage Client Discussions Windows XP (1) Expression Web (1) Vista (1) Canberra (1) Sparks (1) Vostro (1) Ebook (1) Namo (1) In-line

Frontpage is Dead - Conversion to Expression (Web) Almost Impossible IIS Microsoft in its wisdom abandoned Frontpage in 2007 along with all of its users. The replacement Expression (Web) is fraught with bugs, and has yet to become stable. It has not yet been STEEP learning curve (actually many) for those who want to convert exisitng Frontpage webs to Expression. Many elect not to do so. MS has shot itslef in the foot by abandoning for the product. These are: 1 / small business owners who have easily built their own web site in Frontpage, 2 / web designers for those small business owners, and 3 / those who have created large hobby websites. For them to convert to Expression will not be easy - using FP Extensions are out, as are many other FP features
