File Permissions and service.lck

Asked By Harley

Apoloigize for bothering, .....
I installed Windows 7 up from Windows XP) and reinstalled all my
programs.
All of my programs seem to run well.

Using Front Page, ...however,
After I make changes to a web page, ....I get the following error when
I try to save a web page I just edited.

Contact your Internet Service Provider or Web Server Administrator
for more information"

I do not understand how an internet service provider would be involved
in my trying to save a file to my hard drive.

Any ideas please, .......I really do not want to go back to Windows
XP, ....fingers crossed.

Thanks
Harley Kieran

With FP closed, find and delete the file.

Sorry Tom, ....do not understand.
I open FP, open the site, call up the file I want to work on.
I make the changes and then try to save the file to the HD before
uploading it to the web.
Don't undertstand how deleting the file before uploading it to the web
will help.
SOmetimes I can be pretty think

the "service.lck" file...not the file you are working on.

I copied my FrontPage "stuff" from the Windows 7 desktop to a WindowsXP laptop

I copied my FrontPage "stuff" from the Windows 7 desktop to a Windows
XP laptop and after catching up with the needed updates, I can again
focus on my Windows 7 problems.

I deleted the "service.lck" file as suggested but when I tried to save
an altered (htm) page, I just received a different "cannot write"
error.

I think I have tried everything but the one thing that will fix the
problem. Again, I am clean out of ideas.

I notice (on the laptop running Windows XP), ....that each of the
website directories contain a _\vti_pvt folder and these folders all
contain a "service.lck" file that does not present errors when I save
edited pages to a HDD.

Essentially,
Under XP, .....everything runs fine,
Under 7, ..... everything other than FrontPage runs fine,
hopefully, I (not 7) am at the root of my problem.

I like what I see in Windows 7 and I suspect it is going to prove
itself the better XP replacement. Indeed, after close to a $300.00
investment (taxes in) I really do not want to revert my desktop to
Windows XP.
What FP stuff did you copy, and how?

or that I put into the computer (ie html documents, photos etc). I
copied this "stuff" to a flash drive and, from there, on to my laptop.

With the laptop (using XP) everything works. I can open html documents
with FrontPage, make the necessarychanges and save the amended
document to the HDD before FTP'ing the changes up to the website,
.....something I would like to be able to do under Win7.

The laptop is great (travelling) but I still prefer working on my
desktop.

I suspect, ....if I'd given you the correct information in the first
place, you would have been able to save me a lot of frustrating head
scratching.

This worked,
(1) Windows 7 needs FrontPage SP3.
When I installed FP from the original disk, it loaded FP without SP.
I had to download, and install, the SP3 upgrade from the Microsoft
site.

(2) After installing the SP3 upgrade, I had to tell Windows 7, via
the the Older Program Compatibility Wizard that I was running
FrontPage 2003

Thanks again
