Why could not you import the folder into your site?

Why could not you import the folder into your site? What error did you get or
exactly what happened.
Here is how you do it:
Create your JAlbum outside of FP...into a folder somewhere on your computer.
When you are happy with how it looks and works:
Open FP
File | Open Web / Site
File | Import...Add Folder
Browse to the Folder that you saved your JAlbum ...blah blah blah ok
ok....that will bring your JAlbum into your website. Now you can create a
link to the first index.htm that exists within the newly Imported JAlbum if
you want.

yes...just create a link to the first index.htm(l) page that exists in the
JAlbum folder that you Imported into FP. The gallery is going to remain in
that folder though.
You can also (if you are careful) edit the html appearance of the JAlbum
pages that are displayed...be careful though.

You have no idea what you are talking about. What the OP wants to do has
nothing to do with having an online JAlbum account. You've never used JAlbum
so do not give advice on how to include a JAlbum generated photo album into a
FrontPage created website...which is something I HAVE done many times.

I now have the folder in the folder list view but to get this onto a page
within the site
how is the link actually done ?
thanks again cliff
You are not getting it "on" a page.
Rob Giordano [MS MVP] replied to cliff morrow
20-Nov-09 12:27 AM
You are not getting it "on" a page. JAlbum has created the page for you, you
will link to that page from one (or more) pages in your FP website. Don't
listen to the troll about frames...he will just get you confused and you will
have problems with frames.
You can style your JAlbum to look like your regular pages (pretty
close)...but you are not going to put it "on" a page created by FP.

First some OT Hints:1- Optimize your image files...
Rob Giordano [MS MVP] replied to cliff morrow
22-Nov-09 04:22 PM
First some OT Hints:
1- Optimize your image files...they are waaaaayyyyy too big and take forever
to download. You can use IrFanview a free program that is easy to use.
2- Do NOT use Hover buttons, they rely on Java (not to be confused with Java
Script) a lot of people do not have Java on their machines and they will just
see gray boxes.
ok...back to JAlbum
I looks like you did NOT import the generated JAlbum folder. You must use
JAlbum OUTSIDE of FP to generate your album into a folder OUTSIDE of your FP
web (call the folder gallery1, or whatever you want). You do not bring ANY
of the JAlbum files into FP except what is in this folder. When you use
JAlbum you will see the option of where to output your files to...that will be
gallery1 (or whatever you call it).
Make sure your album works before you bring it into FP.

Hi Rob ..
Thanks for your advice on the images and hover buttons ,,, i will try the
programme you mentioned
but just trying to sort this first .....
I created the gallery solely in jalbum then saved it , when saved it is in a
folder named my albums .
When i import in fp i could not import that folder but only the folder
inside it , and thats the one in the web ,
are you saying that i actually publish this to the reformlive web via
F T P and then link it into the site .
Sorry if i am asking to much but anything is hard to understand when you
dont know how to do it ..
thanks cliff .
I am not sure what you are saying exactly.
Rob Giordano [MS MVP] replied to cliff morrow
23-Nov-09 09:06 PM
I am not sure what you are saying exactly.
If the path to your generated album is My Albums\album, then you Import
Folder you will browse to "album" and select only that. Save your album
OUTSIDE of FP but ALSO outside of JAlbum or you may end up with JAlbum files
too. JAlbum's dialog will allow you to generate the outputted file anywhere
you want so select the correct folder. You do not want to save JAlbum's
config files there though...I believe those are what you did upload to your
website.
If you are using FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) and you are publishing
via the http:// method you do not want to use FTP or you will break the
FPSE.

More:
Your path to your generated album may be something like this;
C:\My Documents\My Albums\reformalbum1
In the reformalbum1 folder you should have two folders; .jalbum and album
the .jalbum folder has a txt file
the album folder will have three folders; res, slides, thumbs but in the
root of "album" you will see
album.rss
help.html
index.html <------this is the index that you will create your link to from
your nav button (if that is what you want).
Remember to "Make" the album to a local folder...NOT the Publish option
(that is if you want to publish it to a JAlbum account online)
When you import the folder into FP you will browse to reformalbum1 and
import that folder and all the folders & files below it will import as well.

helpful hint #301 - avoid using capitalization and spaces in file and folder
names.

Hi Rob
that pretty much sounds just like what i did ,,,,, but i did it all again
and here goes ...
1, had gallery open in jalbum ( not as a gallery view because then you cant
save etc )
2 , saved directly to documents as reformalbum ( it automaticly saves as
reformalbum.jap )
3, started again in ft , clicked import , then folder , reformalbum.jap is
not saved as a folder so then clicked import file
then got it in fp
4 , published web with the link to reformalbum.jap ( i have already imported
to fp ) .
the links are on the gallery tabs at www.reformlive.co.uk/reform.htm
if you dont mind could you please have a look as it is obviously not correct
