IIS - Windows Update related to IIS

Hello:

My IT department pushed the folllowing updates to the server.

Windows Internet Explorer 7 Dynamic Installer Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer 7 Dynamic Installer for Windows Server 2003 (KB953838)
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 Other Source
Windows Server 2003 Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB951072)  Wednesday,

Since then I am having a problem with the IIS. I have a virtual directory
which has a shared folder located to the another computer. This is giving
permission denied but when I reset the IIS, it works for a while and it
starts giving same permission denied error. Do you think that the above
update might have created an issue? Before update I did not have any such
kind of issue.

I think you will need to keep looking beyond those updates. Problems
such as what you describe tend to come from outside IIS.

It sounds like you had Group Policy pushed down to your computer,
along with those patches, which is causing issues.

For example, the group policy may have limited logon hours for users
accounts used by IIS, which could result in such behavior.

Since it is an arbitrary Group Policy change, it will require legwork
from you to figure out.

Thank you very much for your response.

If group policy have limited logon hours for users then nothing would work
but here only one function which is using  a file at shared location on other
computer does not work. Rest of functions of my Application are working fine.

if you reset the IIS then this function starts working fine for a while.

IIS just retrieves a user token and doesn't place limits on it so that
it stops working, so if you observe it working for a while, you should
start looking at external security policies applied to user accounts.

Also, read this URL on how to properly configure IIS access to shared
folders. You may be able to alter your configuration to avoid
expiration issues altogether.

All I am saying is that you need to start looking outside of IIS and
those Updates, and creatively.

Thanks for reply.

I figured it out what is the actual problem. I am using a system OCX i.e.
wshom.ocx and ProgID is WScript.Shell.1. This is actually giving an error
permission denied. I am positive that this is started happenning after  the
windows update. I tried REGMON and FILEMON but I am not able to find any
clue.
